OUR VISION

Our Vision for our Neighbourhood Plan is to see West Mersea become an even better place to live, work and visit. We wish to enhance and sustain the natural beauty and vitality of our neighbourhood whilst ensuring our infrastructure is capable of supporting the community.

West Mersea is a small town with great shops, school, nurseries and restaurants. We are surrounded by farms, beautiful countryside, beaches and the tidal estuary which supports our world famous oysters and fishing community.  West Mersea has accommodated additional housing over the years and we inevitably will be required to accommodate more. However, the final Neighbourhood Plan will ensure the increased population and housing brings enhancement to our wellbeing, recreation and infrastructure.     

COMMUNITY LED DEVELOPMENT

Our vision is for development that will stand the test of time, support the local economy, provide high quality accommodation for all in our community in West Mersea, respecting the individual character of the town and protecting our natural environment.  This process develops a stronger voice in determining appropriate local development when planning applications are decided by Colchester Borough Council for the next 20 years and beyond.

PLANNING FOR FUTURE DEVELOPMENT

The Neighbourhood Plan will give us a greater say about WHERE, HOW, WHAT and WHEN development occurs in our community. We want our community to have the chance to get good impartial advice from experts about what kind of growth would benefit the town within limits that being an island imposes. This advice will be used to work in partnership with all those involved to manage what is eventually built.

OUR FUTURE

Our desire is that the local community will therefore support us in providing a Neighbourhood Plan that will support,promote and enhance our Shops, Businesses, Restaurants and community both for ourselves and our children’s future. Protecting our environment and way of life. Ensuring we are safe and secure. To be forward thinking whilst never losing track of our local traditions.
