At a recent West Mersea Town Council meeting the Covid Symptom Study was discussed. This free smartphone app tracks data given by members of the public to enable statistics to be extrapolated to help the fight against the coronavirus.

The process is very straightforward as once the app is installed a simple option is requested each day to choose between:
- I feel physically normal
- I'm not feeling quite right
Should the second option be selected the app guides the respondent through the process of getting tested.

The data is used to help inform government and health bodies predict potential trends nationally and locally. At the moment there are over 4 million contributors nationally and 3328 in the Colchester area.

Optionally users can respond to occasional additional surveys and/or opt to be part of vaccine testing.
